At
16 years old Liam McConnell has already gotten a head start into the
world of stand up comedy. In early 2009 he signed up for a 10 week
stand up course that changed his life forever. During the course with
veteran comedian Trent McClellan as his mentor, Liam was able to find
his inner comedian and bring out his own style of quirky, intense,
energy filled comedy. After a very successful 5 minutes on stage Liam
knew that he wanted to be doing this for the rest of his life. Liam is
an avid participant in games such as Dungeons & Dragons(thanks to
his language arts teacher Mrs. Moore), and loves to take the stage in
ways other than stand up comedy. He played the lead role in "The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in Junior High, under the brilliant direction
of Devona Reid. It is to her he owes his flair for the dramatic,
and humility on stage. Liam also won the overall band excellence
award for Junior High, and the Jazz band award, thus proving he is a
natural performer. Taking the stage is such a thrill for him,
that Liam is enrolled in both band and drama classes in high
school, as well as an out of school theatre improv class called the
Calgary High School Improv League, at Loose Moose Theatre Company.
After about a year of, jazz solos, monologues, theatre sports and
one small school fundraiser, he found himself with a hankering to do
more stand up. As soon as he found out that he was going to be a part
of FunnyFest he nearly rocketed out of his chair! Liam is extremely
honoured to be a part of the festival and is going to do his absolute
best to bring the laughs to his fellow Calgarians! |
