Calgary and Area is ripe for an entertainment event of this stature. This city is recognized as a leader in energy, technology and volunteerism with a thriving arts and culture scene. Calgarians like to laugh, they like to party and have fun. With a metro population (greater area) of more than 1 million people, there are thousands of diehard festival-goers that will enjoy the wide appeal of a comedy festival.
Why Now?
Why not, we say! It's a new century and a new millenium, so what better time to start something new and adventurous? We believe that as the world speeds up and the pace of life gets more crazed and hectic, there is all the more need to take a time-out and laugh at ourselves. Why 10 Days?
We want comedy lovers to immerse themselves in the whole experience of a comedy event. We decided on a 10-day festival so we could create momentum and build attendence, while providing festival-goers with a wider timeframe (including two weekends) to plan their itenerary. In addition, the festival infrastrcuture is largely the same for 10 days as it is for 3 or 4-day festival. And of course, we can't ignore the benefit of a longer exposure for our sponsors.
Who Are the Headline Acts?
We have a number of talented veterans and newcomers to choose from in a pool of over 500 applicants. While we have yet to complete our talent roster, we are proud to announce the comedy talent offers something for every taste and then some! Please check our website in March to see the hilarious line up that will keep you in stitches of laughter! The prime focus of FunnyFest is, on stand-up & sketch comedy talent with an emphasis on providing exposure to local and other Canadian up-and-comers. We're setting the stage for the next Bruce McCullough, Jim Carey or John Candy.
